What is Panel Mode?
Panel Mode splits one design into panels, each its own SVG and DXF file at real-world size. It is made for stencils, murals, and any project too big for a single sheet, such as a large vinyl decal, a wall stencil, or a sign cut on a small machine. Choose 4, 9, or 12 panels, or enter the size you need the artwork to cover and the paper or material size you are working with, and Panel Mode works out how many sheets it takes.
How it works
- Upload your design: a JPG, PNG, WEBP, or HEIC image.
- Choose 4, 9, or 12 panels and enter the finished width, or choose "Cover a size I need", enter the width and height the artwork has to cover and pick a sheet size such as Letter, A4, Tabloid or a custom size. Sizes can be in inches, feet, centimeters, or millimeters.
- Optionally add an overlap, so each panel repeats a strip of its neighbors and the panels are easy to line up and tape together.
- Generate, check the numbered preview, and download each panel, or everything at once as a ZIP with an assembly guide.
Tips for stencils and large cuts
Bold shapes with strong contrast cut best. Panel Mode does not add bridges, so shapes with enclosed islands, like the centers of O, A, B, and 8, will fall out of a stencil unless you add small bridges in your cutting software or by hand. Each panel is set to true size in millimeters, so check the scale after importing it. For help choosing equipment, see our guides to cutting machines and vinyl.

How do I split an image into 4, 9, or 12 parts?
Upload the image to Panel Mode, choose 4, 9, or 12 panels, and enter the size you want the finished piece to be. Each panel comes back as its own SVG and DXF, sized to fit, and the ZIP includes a map showing where each one goes.
What is a stencil bridge?
A bridge is a small uncut strip that holds an island, like the center of an O, to the rest of the stencil so it does not fall out. Panel Mode does not add bridges, so add them in your cutting software or by hand. Our guide to making a stencil from a photo explains how.
How big can each panel be?
Whatever fits your material and machine. Choose the finished width and the number of panels, and the page shows the size of each panel before you generate.
How many sheets of paper do I need for a big stencil or mural?
Choose "Cover a size I need", enter the width and height the artwork has to cover, and pick your sheet size. Panel Mode shows how many sheets that takes before you generate, with a table comparing Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A4, A3 and A2. You can keep a margin clear on every sheet for your printer or cutter, and either fit the whole design inside the area or fill the area and crop the edges.
Is Panel Mode free?
Yes. Splitting a design and downloading the panels is free, with no account required.
How are the panels numbered?
Left to right, then top to bottom. The ZIP includes an assembly guide that shows the layout.
Can I use it for murals?
Yes, for painting on surfaces you own or have permission to use. Panel Mode helps you cut or print a large design in manageable pieces.
Do you keep a copy of my image?
No. Uploaded images are deleted from the server right after your panels are generated — see the Privacy Policy for details.
